The geography affected the development of the different city-states. The mountainous terrain, isolated valleys, and the off shore islands forced a lot of different villages to bond instead of one big city. The different areas developed different cultures and ways of living. The also developed different forms of language and communication. The three main city states are Athens, Corinth, and Sparta.

The Greek City-States have a major effect on us today. For example, the Greeks had a democracy. In the United States, today we have a democracy. There are some differences between our democracy and the Ancient Greeks democracy, but they both have the same concept of giving the power to the people. Every Greek who met the qualifications could vote. You had to be a male, a citizen, and over the age of 18 to be able to vote. That meant that not much of the population could vote. The people that could vote, voted on everything. Today we vote people in to make the decisions. We do not vote on specific laws, we vote for the people to make the decisions and laws for us. If the Greeks did not like the way one person is running something then the people could vote to take the person out. This relates to today because the president can be impeached. There are some differences but without the Greek people, we may not have had the democracy we have today.
